Teilla & Taquan ("TQ") have the sweetest spirits. From the moment we first chatted, I was in love with them. They are gentle, loving, kind... all the qualities you would want in a couple you have to photograph! These are also qualities that make them perfect for each other. They balance each other out in the best ways!
I was lucky enough to spend a few days with them where they live in Austin, Texas earlier last year. They had recently relocated there when TQ got a job offer he couldn't refuse. They had me come down there to photograph their engagement session. (You can see it HERE.) I really got to know them on that trip, and it was such a pleasure to hang out together and have them show me around their new city. I not only fell in love with Austin, Texas... I fell in love with them!!
Fast forward to their big day: it was an absolutely gorgeous! Perfect weather, gorgeous venue, tons of friends and family... it was exactly what every bride dreams of! Their ceremony and reception were on the rooftop at the Hyatt Regency at The Arch. It's one of my favorite places in St. Louis. The staff is incredible, and the views are stunning.
They had their ceremony and reception back-to-back, so I orchestrated a First Look for them so that we could do all of their photographs before the festivities. This is one of my favorite elements to a wedding day!! It's so intimate and private, plus it allows the couple to talk and visit by themselves for a little while. It's really the only time they get to be alone the entire day!
With that being said, I hope you enjoy some of my favorite images from their wedding in St. Louis. You will find a list of their vendors at the end of this post.

Kayte & Ryan were married in Klondike Park on July 25, 2015. They camped there the night before AND on their wedding night, surrounded by their family and friends. It was one of the most personal, intimate weddings I've ever photographed. Did I also forget to mention that it was over 100 degrees that day and EVERYTHING was outdoors? These guys were complete troopers the entire day. From climbing through thick woods to get "the money shot", to wrangling their four kiddos... they were game for anything that day!
This is my favorite image of their entire day...
I have to say that it was so special being there with Kayte on her wedding day. We've been close friends since we were quite young, and our parents still live on the same street! Ryan and I also grew up together, and were self-proclaimed "Band Nerds" together for many years!! :)
Check out Kayte's belt! She designed it herself and it's made completely of pieces, photos, and charms from her and Ryan's childhood.
Here are their 4 incredible kiddos...
And here's their incredibly perfect family photo. I mean -- who looks this good in 100 degree heat?!
You know how people warn you that everything won't go as planned on your wedding day? Trust me when I tell you that it's totally true!! During the ceremony, the heat got the best of Ryan, and he *ALMOST* passed out!! Kayte (a nurse) ran to get him seated and got him a piece of chocolate to get his blood sugar back during the ceremony. The rest of their vows were done with her kneeling down to meet him. It was special, romantic, and totally emotional. There wasn't one dry eye in the house!
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Calhoun!!!
Sarah and Bart came to ATP through one of our most favorite couples (Amanda & Casey Barrale: Married 2011!). From the moment I met Sarah and Bart, I've adored them! We went to lunch after their engagement session, and sat for hours just chatting and getting to know each other. They are a fun, loving, and gracious couple, and it was our honor to photograph their big day. We had absolutely perfect weather, and a huge bridal party full of hilarious folks!! Their families were truly attentive to everyone's needs throughout the day, and the emotions were so sweet and touching. Lots of happy tears were shed that day! Here's a little bit more about the couple...
ATP: How did you two meet? SB: Through mutual friends before the Pearl Jam Concert on May 4, 2010. the Pearl Jam Concert on May 4, 2010.
ATP: What's your favorite memory of your wedding day? SB: Where to begin.....EVERYTHING was perfect! The weather, the ceremony, my hubby getting emotional (which hardly ever happens)..., the pictures with the wedding party, the awesome reception with the great food and drinks....and lots of dancing! We truly had the BEST day ever!
ATP: What's your best advice for people planning their Big Day? SB: Keep calm and drink lots of wine! :) Stay organized!

Meet Andrew and Nicole. They are fun, warm-hearted, bubbly, passionate, and all-around good people. Within a few minutes of us meeting for the first time, I knew I liked them! We sat for several hours just sharing stories and hanging out (as I do with a lot of our couples), and we really connected. Nicole had a ton of great questions during their consultation, which showed me that she was really prepared for the meeting, and that she and Andrew really had done their research about wedding photography and what to look for in a wedding photographer. (THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!! I'll have a blog post that talks about that very soon!)
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is that I get to see the couple in a different light. I get to see them nervous and anxious... and then as the session continues, I get to see the anxiousness melt away, and I watch their real personalities come out. These two warmed up rather quickly, and really had a great time. I love how their images are the perfect mix of warm-hearted and silliness. Some of their facial expressions caused me to crack up!!
We did their session around Lafayette Square. It's one of my favorite neighborhoods here in St. Louis. The old, historic buildings make such a great backdrop! (Also - check out Nikki's shoes in this shot below... aren't they great?!)
This next image is one of my favorites so far this season. It's not often that I am able to catch a quiet moment between a couple, especially when they are as lively and bubbly as these guys are. Here, you can see how connected they really are... and it's always an honor to be able to capture a moment like this...
As their final image, Andrew had one special request: "I need a picture of me upside-down. Can you do that?"
I think we nailed it...
Congratulations, you two! We can't wait until April 2014!!!!
